JANIS JOPLIN

PAINTINGS OF WOMEN WHO INSPIRE

I was born in 1968 and too young to know who Janis Joplin was because she died on October 4, 1970. But as I got older, I discovered her music and I thought she was an amazing singer. I learn more about her life and loved that she was a path-breaking woman, who will be remembered not only for her unique personality and voice but also as a public pioneer in the women’s movement. She was an icon of the hippie counterculture. She quickly becomes my main spirit guide. I loved that urged young people to question assumptions and authority. She stressed that a woman could be just as powerful in society as a man. As the first female rock superstar, she blazed the trail for most of the female and male singers alive!
